Utopiales 2008
From October 29 to Novermber 4, I will be a guest at Utopiales in Nantes, France. This is a very large festival and I'm very pleased to be invited. As I know more details about my visit, I'll post them here.

Conestoga Con 2009
Looking forward to 2009, I'm honored to be the guest of Conestoga Con in Tulsa, Oklahoma. It's primarily a literary sf convention with an attendance of about 700 people or so. The convention dates have been moved to April, to avoid some of the heat of summer. As I know more about the planning for 2009, I'll add details here.

August 2008 Updates

French Graphic Novel

I've seen the cover art, and it is awesome! A bit of background. Laurent Sieurac and Jean-Charles Gaudin have created a graphic novel based on the Farseer books. It is, of course, all in French! :) The publisher is Soleil. I'm hoping that it will be available in the US through Amazon.co.fr. We'll have to wait and see. With a bit of luck, I'll get to meet both Laurent Sieurac and Jean-charles Gaudin at the Utopiales in France in late October. For a sneak preview of the graphic novel, drop in on Pat at his Fantasy Blog Spot If you haven't visited Pat's site before, I advise you to budget an hour or so for exploring it!

For more information on the graphic novel, or to pester Laurent Sieurac with questions, try dropping by Les Rivages Maudit The link above goes to the part that caters to people who speak only English, but French readers will find much to enjoy in the whole site.

Hobb on the Internet

As long as I'm on this topic, here are a couple of other Hobb information places.

Mervi is in charge of The Plenty, a Hobb wiki and news place.

In addition to this website, I also have a Hobb MySpace where, against my better judgement, I sometimes blog. If you'd like a sneak preview of the prologue for Dragonkeeper, check the blog for August 5, 2008. There are a couple of drafts of it there.

And then there is Facebook. moderated by the incomparable Crooty, artist and friend. If you haven't seen her interpretation of the Farseer Map, you really should visit there.

There is also a Robin Hobb Yuku group, founded by Willem Timmer, friend and bibilophile.

And finally, the place I check at least twice a day: The Robin Hobb newsgroup at sff.net. This is the place to come if you have a question you want to ask me directly. I do my best to answer promptly. We also have discussions on almost every imaginable topic. Feel free to jump in and introduce yourself. Good people there. Allow yourself some time to explore sff.net if you've never been there. Too much good stuff to describe!

Pictures

The Robin Hobb photobucket has been updated with a few new snapshots, mostly in the At Home In Tacoma section. Of course, Look Edwin the pigeon is the subject of most of them. The veterinarian's prediction that his wing would heal in a few weeks and he could be released back to the wild have sadly not come true. But as you see, he has adapted well to a more domestic lifestyle, including bonding with his roommates. You will also find a photo album with pictures from Imaginales 2008. I had a wonderful time.

Other Bits of News

Korean language rights to the Farseer Trilogy have been sold to Nexvision. I don't know the release date for books as they have to be translated, but I'm very pleased to appear in yet another language.

Subterranean Press will be bringing out an anthology called Fantasy Medley, edited by Yanni Kuznia. The release date is March, 2009. My story for the anthology is set in the Farseer universe, and is called Words Like Coins. I have great neighbors in the book: Kate Elliott, Kelley Armstrong and C.E. Murphy. For a more detailed description, I'll send you to my Myspace blog for July 19th.(See how lazy I am!)

I have turned in and Gardner has accepted my 'short' story for the Warriors anthology that he and George RR Martin are editing for Tor. My contribution is called The Triumph, and is based on a very real incident during the First Punic War. George has blogged about the anthology. Again, it looks like I'll be in very good company.

My final trip this year will again be to France at the end of October/start of November for Utopiales in Nantes. I haven't been to that festival before but I've heard very good things about it from those who have. I'm hoping to meet lots of readers at both events.

In February of 2006, I made a visit to Taipei as the guest of Fantasy Foundation. I was treated wonderfully and enjoyed myself completely. Pictures of this visit can be found at the Photo Album.

The Science Fiction Museum in Seattle, Washington offers readings and signing sessions by Science Fiction and Fantasy writers on a regular basis. In the photo above, Robin Hobb is on the left and Vonda McIntyre on the right during a signing session following a reading we did in 2005.
