Nevare Burvelle was destined from birth to be a soldier. The second son of a newly anointed nobleman, he must endure the rigors of military training at the elite King’s Cavella Academy—and survive the hatred, cruelty, and derision of his aristocratic classmates—before joining the King of Gernia’s brutal campaign of territorial expansion. The life chosen for him will be fraught with hardship, for he must ultimately face a forest-dwelling folk who will not submit easily to a king’s tyranny. And they possess an ancient magic their would-be conquerors have long discounted—a powerful sorcery that threatens to claim Nevare Burvelle’s soul and devastate his world once the Dark Evening brings the carnival to Old Thares.

Books On Board

  1. This is the best story you’ve published. It probably didn’t sell as well as the books about the Farseers, the Liveship traders or the Golden fool. Probably because it is so different. But this is oh so daring, new, fresh and thought provoking. I finished the series for a second time and it is still as good as I remember it. I know your fans probably prefer the Farseer setting and that pays the bills but I just want to say that I appreciated reading this series and would love to read something equally different and fresh from you someday. Maybe you could find time to do both? :)

It is rare that I find a story that captures me so thoroughly as did the Farseer novels. It is rarer still that I find an author whose every written word is as compelling to read.
“Thank you” and “you are gifted” does not even begin to convey my senses of being blessed to have experienced the reading enjoyment.

  3. Hi…I just finished the tawny man series and was wondering if you are going to write more of Fitz and the fool. It seemed you left that open in the epilogue. Very much enjoyed the whole series dealing with the Farseers and the dragons. Thanks for your stories. :)

  4. I am currently hard at work on book two of The Fitz and the Fool trilogy. Book one is with the publishers. There is a tentative UK publication date of August, 2014. As soon as a US one is decided upon, I’ll post it here! Thanks for asking.

This is a comment regarding the map in the EOS imprint version of Shaman’s Crossing. (Copyright 2005 by Meghan Lindholm). Whether you choose to post it or not is, of course, up to you. I enjoy studying maps included in novels because it helps me form a more complete picture in my mind of the landscapes the characters are traveling. However, the description you gave in the story and the map drawn there made no sense to me. You wrote that they sailed down the Tefa River to where it met the Ister River and became the Soudana River upon which Nevare and his father were to sail down to Old Thares. The map shows Old Thares on the Tefa River before the confluence of the Ister and the Tefa to become the Soudana River. On the map , Old Thares is shown as being almost directly south of the confluence of the two. I may be nitpicking or reading the map completely wrong, but from my perspective it seems the written version and the map version are not in synch.
