  1. Hi Matt!

I’ll be in Australia in June, for SupaNova in Sydney and Perth. Not sure if you are anywhere near either of those locations. It’s a pretty big continent!

But if you manage to attend either event, it would be great to sign your book for you. Thanks for the feedback on the Inheritance. I had a lot of fun choosing the stories for the collection.

    Robion

  2. Dear Mimi,

Thanks so much for your comments. I hope you will enjoy the Liveships, and after that the Tawny Man trilogy, as it continues the tale of Fitz and the Fool. I am hard at work on the new trilogy. Letters such as yours are very encouraging.
    Robin

  3. Kezia, I can’t think of a higher compliment! Thank you, and thanks so much for being a reader!

    Robin

  4. Thanks for being such a devoted reader! I am writing as fast as I can!

    Robin

  5. Thanks so much. The detail is very demanding, and sometimes I spend an hour looking back to make sure I am not contradicting myself! So your encouragement is greatly appreciated!

    Robin

  6. Oh, I wish that somehow there were extra hours between days when I could do all the writing on all the stories in my head. For now, my writing time is full of Fitz and the Fool. After that, we will have to see! Thanks for your interest.

  7. read everything u wrote. bigfan. just wanted to know why you ended rainwild so quickly. disapointed. cant wait for your next book

  8. judy smith - February 20, 2014

I just love your books and cant get enough of them…………….have read all of your works and enjoyed them immensly, and I cant wait for the release of Fitz and the fool, they are my absolute favourites!

  9. Amintha - March 3, 2014

    Hi Robin Hobb,
I’m a great fan of your books.  I was wondering in what order i should read them.  I’ve read the first two assassins book and really enjoyed them, but that got me to thinking about the generally related nature of the books.  It got me to wondering if there is a timeline order I should read things?
    thanks
    Amintha

  10. Hi Amintha!

When you click on ‘novels’ at the top of the page, the books appear in chronological order. To stay in the Realm of the Elderlings, simply skip the Soldier Son Trilogy, and you will be fine!

    Thanks for asking.

    Robin

(Hi Shane! I hope you don’t mind that I’ve added some spoiler space here!

    Spoilers for Tawny Man!

    Spoilers for Tawny Man!

    okay, you were warned! Robin

    Hi Robin,

I just wanted to relate to you that I’m re-reading your Farseers + Tawny Man series again for the sixth time and loving the return to world of Fitz and company. Your work is pretty much the only writing in the realm of fantasy that has all the usual great elements of adventure but with a particular warmth and feeling that I absolutely adore (i.e. rarely in other great fantasy works do characters express love and affection toward their friends and mentors). It’s a quality more works of fantasy could benefit from studying in your work.

You know – this time reading your work, I’ve had an interesting revelation. Ten years ago, in my first time through, I think my favorite parts of the story were very different. Maybe it was the conflict within Fitz, or the loss and rediscovery of his life long love in Molly or maybe the very interesting topic of the Skill. But – now that I’m older (with kids and a busy professional life), do you know what my favorite moment so far as been? It was the part of the Fool’s Errand in which Fitz and the Fool spend those weeks together at Fitz’s cabin, simply enjoying one another’s company. What does that say about me? I’m not sure – but I can say that it says your work has much to offer in an evolving state in regards to how it can be enjoyed and what speaks louds and most poignant to your readers.

One other note — the death of Nighteyes and the way you constructed those paragraphs — simply beautiful and elegant. Thank you for the deftness of touch that you handle that scene with most especially –

Best wishes and long, happy days writing more incredible work to you, Ma’am -

    shane

  12. Kimberly Nelson - March 16, 2014

I love all your books. Just wanted to say so. You’re awesome! Thanks

  13. Keir Williams - March 18, 2014

Hi just wanted to say what a pleasure it’s been discovering the Farseer Trilogy. I’ve found it very hard to find fantasy books that go beyond the genre and are simply good stories. It’s had me griped from the moment I opened the first page. Thank you for writing this. Keir

  14. carol - March 19, 2014

I love your books, I actually cried for an hour a the end of Fool’s Fate as I knew there were no more books for me to read. It’s hard saying goodbye to charachters especially those that are loved. Truly Fitz and the Fool have driven me crazy at times but thank you for a wonderful story!

  15. Anthony - March 24, 2014

    Hi Robin,
Firstly, absolutely love your books! You are by far my all-time favorite author so just wanted to say you have an amazing talent!
Not sure if you’ve been asked this before, so apologies if you have!
I was just wondering if you’d ever considered turning your novels into films? I for one would LOVE to see these recreated to film however have myself wondered whether or not the story would suffer from the time constraints of the movie. Have you ever considered this yourself? And if so, who would be your ideal actors to play some of your characters?

  16. Well, Anthony, it’s not really up to me. A film producer would have to be interested in the project.

For myself, I’m happy telling my stories with words. I have an unlimited budget for special effects, I can cast anyone I want, and no setting is too exotic or expensive!

    writers have it good!

    Robin

  17. Sherri - April 2, 2014

Hello Robin, I just recently discovered your works and my husband and I are so hooked . How is way ahead of me because I came across them while searching for books I thought he would enjoy. But after listening to him rave about them, I decided to try Assassin’s Apprentice and I was unable to put it down. So I just wanted to tell you how much we enjoy your writing style and imaginative characters and stories. It’s very exciting to have found something We look so forward to !

  18. Sherri - April 2, 2014

It’s been so long since I have enjoyed something this much my huhusband and I are huge fans!

  19. Azra - April 3, 2014

Can’t wait to meet you at Contario in Toronto – have a few quotes from these books scattered all over myself and hope to get one of them signed (and then inked permanently). Eagerly anticipating the new series! I LOVE the Fool. <3 possibly one of your biggest fans

  20. lynda atkinson - April 7, 2014

Robin: I am a definite and dedicated fan of your writing. My favorite fantasy series are your “Farseer Trilogy”, Tawny Man Trilogy”, “Liveship Trilogy” and “Rainwild Chronicles”. I have re-read them numerous times and looking forward to “Fool’s Assassin” which is being released in August of 2014. Your imagination and character development makes your books a pleasure to read.

  21. Suzan - April 14, 2014

    Hi Robin,

Loved all your books the first time read them.
Now I am collection the narrations and listening in the car to and from work. They
give a whole new dimension to your stories. Surpasses radio by a mile. Waiting patiently for your next treasure.

  22. Alan Harnois - April 17, 2014

I have to say that to get me to read the Farseerer and Tawney man series six times means a great deal. Then I find out just last week about Fool’s Assassin.

First thing i did is a great cheer, then called and reserved a copy for the release date.

I do have to say that it is my opinion that Robin Hobbs writing is not only awesome but that the next closest that i can compare her to would be JRR Tolkien!!!!

Like many other people who say similar things here, I to felt a void as Fool’s Fate ended. Truely wanted more of Fitz, and now it is coming.

    Thank you, Robin.

  23. Raylene - April 20, 2014

there are very few books, let alone series that I re-read, your books however I return to time and time again. The characters have such depth that I find something new in them each time. I can’t wait to find out what happens in your world scape next.

  24. Thank you.

  25. brenda coupland - May 6, 2014

I just finished reading Blood of Dragons. The whole series was amazing and I am left wondering if there will be another book to follow. As many others have written it is so hard letting go of the characters that you have grown to love whilst reading. Hard to accept that this was the end. Any chances there is more to come??? Love your work exceptional. Thanks so much for your works Brenda

  26. Nathan Green - May 12, 2014

Very excited to meet you at Supernova next month! Love your books. Following the life of fitz was such a journey. I was devastated when i turned that last page and realised my time with him was over! See you soon!

    Nathan

  27. Dorothy Raniere - May 17, 2014

I am a HUGE fan and read everything to date. (as far as I can tell) I just had to tell you that when I finished reading Fool’s Fate, I was in tears. I started with Assassin’s Apprentice and just kept going. Thank you so much.

  28. Paul Hofman - May 31, 2014

    Hi Robin,

I recently discovered your work after searching my local book store for something new to read and came across a lovely purple cloth bound hard back edition of Assassins Apprentice. I picked it up and checked out the first page and before I knew it I had read the entire first chapter! I knew instantly that this was the story for me. I have gone through the entire farseer trilogy in 10 days and almost immediately ordered the Tawny man trilogy. I just want to say thank you, it has been a long time since a book has took hold of me as yours have done. I cannot wait to carry on the adventures of Fitz.

  29. Dani - June 5, 2014

I just finished the liveship trilogy and I have fallen in love! I’m buying up the rest of the novels like crazy!

At first I was unaware that you were a woman (sorry sorry!) Until I read the about the author portion. The thing that stuck me is how amazingly you write women. It seems so silly but after some books I’ve read its absolutely wonderful to read about a woman that feels like a woman. And the absolute variety in personalities! Uh love!

Not just women though, all of your characters are wonderful and feel so real. I’m looking forward to reading the rest of your works!!

  30. alyshia - June 12, 2014

Hi Robin… I’m not sure if you’ll see this in time but I am going to visit be at supa nova on Saturday and was wondering if it would be ok if you signed two things for me??? Its a birthday present for my dad, he loves your books and it would mean a lot to me if you could do that….

  31. I’d love to. If there are many people in line, I limit it to 3 items each but you can always join the line again.

  32. Caitlin N. - July 3, 2014

Having not checked my local bookstore recently, I was excited to see two new books in the Rain Wild Chronicles (City of Dragons and Blood of Dragons)! I bought them both immediately, and finished them within a day. I’ve always been a huge fan of your work, and give copies of your books to friends and family at every opportunity. I usually avoid re-reading books, as I find they are never as good as you remember them being. However, the opposite is true of your books – I find myself enjoying them more every time I re-read them!

Keep writing (preferably as fast as you can), you’re amazing!

  33. Robin,

In all honesty, I cannot say enough about your works. So I will endeavor to keep this short. I have read most of your works, and have promoted them to my friend and family… with great effect. My friend and I both read through the Farseer and Tawny man trilogy’s at nearly the same time, and we both teared up pretty hardcore on Nighteye’s death… We still talk about it even after 5 years.
I just wanted to thank you for you efforts, and wanted you to know a small (in the scheme of things) measure of appreciation sent your way.

  34. Evelyn - July 14, 2014

    Hello, Robin.
I just want to thank you. It’s been quite some time since I’ve been so absorbed reading. Your character development and storyline are rich mosaics, with a fullness that never becomes stuffy. Fitz and the Fool are now easily my favorite characters.  Thank you.

  35. Mick - July 15, 2014

    One word: MORE

  36. Lyne Fortin - July 17, 2014

I love your writing. So much depth in all the characters; you make me love them all, captivated. You have that poweful capacity to create a world, make it real. I would like to visit those places, meet these people. You never write enough for my taste.
    Thank you

  37. Wendy F - July 19, 2014

I can say hello again as I met you at the Supanova in Perth recently. I forgot to tell you then that I’ve enjoyed your other novels as well as all your Robin Hobb ones. They’re all sitting in my bookcase waiting for their turn to be read again. I’ll probably wear the words out with all my re-reads. Have just ordered the “Fools Assassin”…I’m going to need a bigger bookcase!
Thank you for your wonderful stories.

  38. Brad - July 21, 2014

You are a goddess! Have you read Stephen King’s novella “Ur”? If you haven’t, then the next sentence won’t make a lick of sense. I want to read your novels from all the other urs. MORE please!
