Yes, that would be Westercon, also known as ConClusion. This year’s Westercon will begin with Seattle is a peculiarly appropriate place to celebrate the end of the world. It’s sort of a potential nexus for natural disasters.
There Seattle is, on the San Andreas fault, with lots of the Seattle waterfront built on potentially unstable fill. Backed by Mount Rainier, with Mt. St. Helens not that far away, both volcanoes, one not so dormant. With the ‘Big One’ as we fondly call that long awaited and over due earthquake perpetually hovering in our collective Northwest consciousness.
Now, of course, we if do get the Big One, there is the potential for it to awaken both those volcanoes, possibly triggering lahars that can travel for miles and miles, literally rivers of cement heavy stuff crushing and burying all in their paths. Not to mention lava, falling ash and dangerous gases.
But not to worry! Surely the tsunami that can be triggered by The Big One will bring an immense wave of cooling seawater to damp things down!
So, there it is, folks! And you know you want to be there! Because if it all goes down as unplanned, the only real thing you can do is get together with your friends for a great ConClusion party! The convention will officially launch at 5 PM Thursday with Closing Ceremonies! Yes, that’s what it is! See you there!
