  • Home again, for a few hours!

    Date: 2010.05.15 | Category: News | Response: 9

I’m so glad to be typing on a full sized, curved keyboard again!!!!  My fingers  love  it!

Last night, I visited Mysterious Galaxy, and as always, had a wonderful time.  There was a large friendly audience that was attentive to the reading and asked many good questions afterward.  And they gave me chocolate!  And a wondeful book called FEED!  What more could I ask!  I signed a lot of stock for them, so if you missed the reading but would still like a signed book, they can certainly help you with that. And they take requests by mail and via their website, so it works no matter where you live.

Then I went back to my hotel, packed, slept briefly and got up at 4 AM to head for the airport. (Kids, don’t try this at home!)  I didn’t sleep on the airplane, needless to say.  I cannot sleep sitting bolt upright.  Luckily I had an excellent companion with me, a book called One For The Money!  I’d never read Janet Evanovich before! Reached home, made and drank a large pot of coffee, changed into fresh clothes and headed down the freeway to Barnes and Noble in Olympia on Black Lake Boulevard.  And again I was met with a waiting audience of excellent listeners.   And they gave me spice tea!  (You see, this is why authors really do readings. We want the chocolate and tea and notebooks they give us!!!  Seriously.)

And I just happened to pick up the next Stephanie Plum adventure, Two For The Dough. Actually, I got two copies, because I will mail the first and second books off to my sister in Ninilchik while keeping one copy of the second book for myself to read.

Does that paragraph make sense?  I think I’m getting a little punchy here.

So, pretty quick, I will wander off to bed.   Because tomorrow is the road trip to Beaverton and Powell’s Books!!  I hope to be there by 4 PM, if they haven’t dug up too much of southbound I-5.   I’m met a number of people from my newsgroup and website, and that has been great fun.  I hope Peter is working tomorrow.  It’s always great to catch up with him with I make it down to Powells.

    See you there!

  • Borderlands

    Date: 2010.05.13 | Category: News | Response: 3

I had a great time tonight at Borderlands in San Francisco. The new cafe next door to the book store is a great addition. I enjoyed a latte there, and then had a very nice evening with a very receptive audience.  My thanks to all.

On a sad note, I was very sorry that Ripley, the book store cat, is no more. They still have one cat in residence, and quite a lively one, but I recall Ripley fondly from my last visit. Book store cats are special creatures. RIP.

Tomorrow I will hop on a plane and head down to San Diego. There I’ll visit Mysterious Galaxy, one of my favorite stops on any book tour!  I’ll hope to see some of you there.

  • How Many Rain Wild books?

    Date: 2010.05.13 | Category: News | Response: 25

This seems to be a recurring question in the comments so I will answer it here.

The Rain Wilds Chronicles was written as a single manuscript, and then divided into two volumes for publication.  Dragon Keeper and Dragon Haven are those two books.

My next published book will be a collection of stories featuring shorter works by both Robin Hobb and Megan Lindholm.

The untitled book I am working on now picks up the tale of the Tarman expedition in search of Kelsingra.  It’s my work in progress and threatens to be a long book!

I hope that answers the question. And thanks to everyone who asked.

  • California, Here I Come! Right back where I started from . . .

    Date: 2010.05.11 | Category: News | Response: 4

And actually, that’s true!  Well, I’ll be back in San Francisco rather r than in Oakland, where I was born, but it’s pretty darn close!

And did I leave my heart in San Franciso? Well, let’s say that some of my best childhood memories are of that city by the bay.

I’ll be looking forward to making some new memories this week.  Ihope to see lots of readers!

First stop:  Books Inc on Wednesday.  Then Borderlands  on Thursday.  And down to Mysterious Galaxy in San Diego on Friday!

    See you there!

P.S.  And here’s a sentimental thing.  On my bookshelf, there is an old copy of a children’s book about The Brownies and the Goblins.  It was given to my father when he was a boy.  The giver?  One Buddy De Silva.  Who, of course, wrote the song that begins, “California, here I come . . .”

  • How do you write?

    Date: 2010.05.08 | Category: News | Response: 0

That’s what my most recent post is about over at Babel Clash.
I’ve been conversing quite a bit there lately, and as a result, I’ve been a bit neglectful here.  Part of my technique for getting my own writing done every day is to put a limit on how much time I can spend on line. So, sad to say, posts over there mean fewer posts here!

So, rather than repeat myself, I’ll send you over to Babel Clash and invite everyone to join in there.  http://bordersblog.com/scifi/

For those not familiar with Babel Clash, it is a discussion site that pairs up a couple of writers (myself and Sara Creasy this time) and lets them chat about writing, sf, fantasy and various other topics they may wander onto. I’ve been enjoying myself there. And I hope readers have been enjoying our discussion as well.

Sara Creasy and I have been a number of aspects of writing and the writing life over at Babel Clash. Which is why, of course, you haven’t seen many new posts here this week.
    Please drop by: http://bordersblog.com/scifi/

And you might want to scroll down and look at some of the posts from other writers. Lots to ponder there.
