   “At one point in my career, at the end of a book, I would go through it page by page looking for the phrase ‘it was as if’. “

   That kind of info is pure gold to beginning writers who see writers like yourself as having sprung from the earth fully formed. It’s always nice to get a reminder that you had to work hard to get where you are.
